Core Rules

The core, governing rules for the server.

Rule 0: Supercedure Clause

Above all else, it is the job of the admin to make the round as smooth and enjoyable as possible for the players. If this means bending the rules in the best interest of the round, then the admin in question may invoke rule zero.
Usage of this will be heavily scrutinized by senior staff. Be ready to defend yourself, should you choose to use it.

Rule 1: ERP or Pornographic content is not permitted.

Do not post pornographic, sexually charged, and or NSFW/NSFL content on this server, period.
This is an immediate, un-appealable perma, pretty much regardless of context beyond the first warning.

Rule 2: Treat everyone with due respect.

Staff are people too, and volunteers at that. If you have an argument against a decision, take it to the forums where senior staff can make the final say on what's in the spirit of the rules or not. Be honest, and if you fucked up, don’t lie about it. We can, and will find out.

Rule 3: Multikeying and Exploiting is not permitted.

Above anything, abusing exploits, modifying your BYOND client, in any shape or form, or threatening server/round stability, is bannable.
Intent will be considered when making punishments in regards to Rule 3 infractions.

Rule 4: Metagaming/grudging, or abuse of OOC information is not permitted.

Do not metagame, by communicating with other players outside of the same server, or abuse meta-knowledge to spoil the round. In general, don’t use information your character wouldn’t normally otherwise have within reason.

Rule 5: Do not powergame or validhunt.

Powergaming is defined as actively prioritizing 'winning the game' over roleplaying, in which the player seeks to gain equipment without a due IC reason to do so, such as preparing for combat when there is no threat present. Validhunting is defined as intentionally seeking out open combat with antagonists or hunting them down, to kill them as non-security.

Rule 6: Use common sense. Don’t be that guy.

This goes hand in hand with discord rules two through four, do not post hate speech, discuss politically charged topics, or be otherwise abusive to other players, in or out of character. This includes IC racism between species, such as the use of the word 'ligger' or similar. Do not post NSFW/NSFL content in this server, the forums, or our Discord.

Rule 7: This is not an exhaustive list.

As prior stated, rules are to be taken by spirit rather than letter definition. If you are asked to stop doing something, knock it off. If you feel things aren’t handled right in a ticket, reach out on the complaints forum, we will never punish someone for posting a valid complaint.

Roleplay Rules

Rule 1: Make an effort to roleplay.

You should play a coherent, somewhat hireable character that is compatible with the setting and wants to keep their job. This includes things like listening to security, not using memes and text speak in character. Petty crime and actions to make the round more interesting are allowed, and to a degree encouraged. Don’t do crime for the sake of it; have motivations to do so.
Examples include: Not naming yourself "Hugh Mongus", "Dixie Normus", etcetera. You shouldn't be killing people because 'I'm crazy.' as a non-antag.

Rule 2: Escalate your actions based on the situation at hand.

You shouldn’t be escalating someone slapping you in the face to a killing spree. Escalate accordingly to what's at hand, and in a way someone would reasonably be able to follow your train of thought. Gibbing someone for stealing your shoes is not an appropriate response, but a security officer applying the boots “medium style” to an assistant for stealing shoes, would be.

Rule 3: Antagonists should operate in the best interest of the round.

You are not required to be evil, but you do have the broadest set of tools available to make the round interesting and memorable for other players. Your job is to provide an interesting, quantifiable challenge to the round, not to outright spoil the experience for other players. Antagonists have greater leeway when it comes to the rules, but not full exemption.
Examples include: Antagonists being given greater leeway when it comes to bodily harming someone, compared to a non-antagonist.

Rule 4: Stay in your lane.

You are mechanically capable of doing every job on the station at any given time, however you should restrain yourself to being able bodied in your chosen role, but not a jack of all trades. Allow other players to preform their job within their department, rather than doing it yourself. Refer to Corporate Standard Operating Procedures for more information.
Examples include: Being an engineer, but knowing a little bit of robotics due to prior field of study. Medical should tend patients, service should make food, etcetera.

Rule 5: Be kind to the bad guy.

This is an addendum to Rule 4, consider not using knowledge that you would not reasonably ICly have to identify or call out antagonists over common channels. Not only is this poor sportsmanship, but is against the better interest of the round. Give antags a chance to get the ball rolling before calling them out.
Examples include: Calling our heretics for wearing robes, traitors for their PDA as non-sec, etc.
